Saturday, 4 February 2006 - Destination Sunshine Coast
After bombing out for me last weekend, the weather was sunny and hot today and so I was on for a ride around the Sunshine Coast - nice :) The plan was to catch the train to Nambour (around 100kms north of Brisbane) and head east around 20kms to Maroochydore on the coast. From there, south about another 20kms to Caloundra, and about 20kms back inland to Landsborough Station. Lovely.

After getting up at the crack of dawn for the earliest train, I left Nambour at 10am.

I looked but couldn't find the lion ;)

This seemed like an oxymoron to me, "Thrill Hill" sounds like somewhere you'd take the girlfriend for a 'good time' - not somewhere for good wholesome family fun hehe. Either way it wasn't much of a thrill biking up the bastard!

This is the big pineapple out the front of the Big Pineapple Theme Park. I don't know anything about it but here's the website. You're able to walk inside this pineapple and climb up to a look-out at the top. As I was lining this shot up there was Mexican-looking guy up there who ducked as soon as he noticed me about to take the photo hahaha! I didn't see him emerge again either.

Opposite the Big Pineapple is a foot bridge across the highway that leads to a massive car park on the other side. It was completely empty and looks like it's only used by little boys with their big toys to come and do doughnuts hehe. Take the missus out for a few doughnuts in the Big Pineapple car park, followed by some lovin' up Thrill Hill - good plan ;)

After several detours off the highway to see what was around I eventually made it to Maroochydore at around 11:30. I organised to meet up with a mate here at Sunshine Plaza shopping centre.

Sunshine Plaza is built over Cornmeal Creek. You can hire these little paddle boats for 15 minutes for a cruise up the creek, although I couldn't see anything preventing you from doing a runner in them and chucking them in the back of the ute up the road somewhere.

The mere visualisation of somebody standing here fishing off the boardwalk, or getting up on the rail in Speedos for a dive just cracked me up hahaha!

Here's a brain teaser for ya, see if you can figure it out (I did :)

BAAHAHAHA!

Maroochydore Beach - I heard rumours of floaters but I didn't notice any.

Hehe - the jellybean car!

Pelican :)

Yup, especially if you're about to open your car door!

Alexandra Headland Beach, 2kms south of Maroochydore Beach. Lots of hot chicks in skimpy bikinis ;)

Mooloolaba - 4kms southeast of Maroochydore. Mo and I came here a couple of times and I love it. It's a very pretty little area with big beach-side motels, heaps of shopping and street-side cafes, and a bloody nice beach.

Mooloolaba Beach. Stretching around for nearly 2kms, this beach has some of the biggest waves I've come across when the conditions are right.

Mooloolaba is home to Underwater World. There's a pond outside where they keep injured turtles on the mend, into which people throw coins as shown above. So if you need any spare change for the bus...

On my way south to Caloundra I found a rather flash-looking cycle path coming off the main road. It eventually led to a bloody flash residential area in the suburb of Parrearra. Built along Wyuna Canal, most of these half-million dollar properties had boats sitting out the front, and there are a couple of man-made beaches too. Bloody nice! I often wonder what people living in these sorts of areas do for a living - IT I hope ;)

I eventually made it down to Caloundra but there was really nothing there worth photographing that I hadn't already seen. Virtually all of Caloundra is very hilly, and having done 60kms by this stage my legs were in no mood for that so I didn't stick around, instead starting the 20km trip back west to Landsborough station.

After flying along at close to 50km/h on a downhill stretch of cycle path, this is a very ominous sign to come across hehe.

Looking southwest towards the Glass House Mountains.

The road back to Landsborough is part of the Glass House Mountains Scenic Tourist Drive and it's bloody pretty!

I made it back to Landsborough at 6pm. 81kms for the day - not bad. Next time I take the bike to the Sunshine Coast I'll head north for Noosa - love it up there!

Monday, 6 February 2006 - Waitangi Day
For the Aussies, February 6 is Waitangi Day back home. Waitangi Day is a public holiday to celebrate the signing of the Treaty of Waitangi, New Zealand's founding document, today back in 1840. The Treaty of Waitangi was signed by representatives of the British Crown and Maori chiefs. From the British point of view, the Treaty justified making New Zealand a British colony. However, there have been major issues concerning the original translation of the treaty from English to Maori. Basically the Maoris thought they were signing one thing and the honkies thought they were signing another. As such, the commemoration of the signing has often been the focus of protest by Maori activists, and during the late 1970s and early 1980s, Waitangi and Waitangi Day became a focus of protest concerning treaty injustices. Regardless, nobody complains about a public holiday!

HEEEEE!

Happy Waitangi Day, bros! :)

"Cook the man some fucking eggs!"

Friday, 10 February 2006 - Super 14 kick off
As the Super 14 starts tonight, I thought it would be appriopriate to put up a rugby FAQ (frequently asked questions) for women. Although this particular FAQ is aimed the 6 Nations tournament, it is still very relevant. Enjoy, and GO THE CRUSADERS!

Tuesday, 14 February 2006 - Valentine's Day

Happy Valentine's Day to all my bitches and hoes ;)

Thursday, 16 February 2006 - What does your dad do?

This fella's job is to walk around with a long-handled scrapper, scrapping chewing gum and other shit off Queen Street Mall. This is why we stay in school kids!

Just down the road from Queen Street Mall are these 'kangaroos' on the side of the road, made up of old wheels, springs, chains, and other scrap metal - the tourists love them!

Pretty clever huh :)

Saturday, 18 February 2006 - GO THE CRUSADERS!

Round two of the Super 14, Canterbury Crusaders vs. Queensland Reds! I missed out on getting my ex-boss's members tickets but I couldn't not see my home team kick some Aussie arse so I forked out the moolah. This is Suncorp Stadium - the shot on the left was taken from my driveway, pretty bloody handy location huh!

The Caxton Pub (on Caxton Street) - an absolute mad-house every time there's an event on at Suncorp!

I don't think pop was too impressed with all the hoohar going on across the road from his house hahaha.
This was the sight that greeted me at the top of the stairs - the Queensland Reds cheerleaders ;) These dirty bitches were all over the news after last week's game when they received a deluge of complaints and told to "tone it down" hahaha. I wasn't complaining! ;)

The view from my seat as the players were coming out; not quite as good as the members' seats on the half-way line. Canterbury received a massive ovation as they ran onto the pitch - I was feeling at home :)

As for the game itself, well in a text message to my flatmate I described us as looking like a bunch of drunken school girls - we were playing like shit! Knock-ons here, turn-overs there. It didn't take long for the Reds to get on the board.

Our first try happened right in front of me and was a huge relief!

Dan Carter, had an absolute shocker of a night with the boot. He lined up kick after kick, some right in front of the uprights, and missed kick after kick!

With only twenty minutes to go the Crusaders were down 16-21 and I was starting to visualise the shit I was going to get at work on Monday. But in the final twenty the Crusaders put on one hell of a show scoring 31 points and leaving the Reds battered and bruised! Unfortunately, I was up the wrong end of the park from all the action :(

All the Crusaders fans started to make themselves very obvious during the final twenty, myself included :)

When the slaughter was finally over it was 47-21!

The crowd didn't stick around too long...

...It was off to the Caxton to get pissed! There were a lot of "CRUSADERS!" chants :)
