We spent the following day in Key West, the southernmost island of the Florida Keys archipelago and the southernmost point of continental USA. The island of Key West covers only a few square-kilometres, and the city of Key West has a population of around 25,000. The two shots on the left are looking along Duval Street, one of the busier and more touristy streets of the city.

Key West is a tourist hotspot, and has a real energy about it - I absolutely loved it! It's big enough to easily spend a good day or so just wandering around.

Damn straight!

Every city has its rough side, and Key West is no different.

This is Mallory Square, another little touristy spot selling all sorts of bits and pieces (including bloody great Key Lime slushy and ice cream things that I really should've taken a photo of!). Oh and conch fritters, they sell bloody good conch fritters here too! And speaking of conchs, those are conch shells on the right. They can be used as a wind instrument if you're good enough, and I didn't know it at the time but these are the 9th most seized import in the UK, mainly from returning tourists such as myself. Good thing for me that UK customs is so relaxed because I brought one back and was never called up on it ;)

Mo went to the vistor centre in Mallory Square to get some info, and came back telling me I'm in luck because there was drag racing on today down Duval Street! However, as you can see, she kind of got the wrong impression hahaha!

This is an annual event where the fruits of the area come out for a racing tournament hehe. The 'chick' on my right in the shot above told me I have a nice arse hahaha. Thanks love, right back at ya! ;)

The race goes like this: They line up, run through the tyres (which looks like hard work in high heals), run the trolley 30 metres up the road and back, run back through the tyres and back over the start/finish line - classic!

Many beaches on the southern coast are private and accessible only to those staying in the adjoining hotels, but I managed to break my way in anyway to get some shots (always gotta get the shot!).

Some of the energy I mentioned above is partly alcohol-fuelled energy ;)

Nice!

The following day we drove back up through the keys and to the Everglades!

FACT # 213: Conchs are now caught in the Bahamas as they were fished out around the Florida Keys due to people like you buying them as souvenirs. Good one Aaron!
