The snow grounded most flights, including ours to Niagara Falls. Luckily we were able to go the following day! This is the food court in the airport: not a single person at Create Your Own Salad...

...but around 30 people and a 10-minute wait at Dunkin' Fuckin' Donuts (this queue extends around the back!). America, why is it, do you think, that you are so damn fat?!

We flew into Buffalo in the northwest of New York State, and from there it was a 45-minute bus ride across the Canadian border into the town of Niagara Falls, Ontario.

Canada - home of the moose!

This is looking down from the eighth floor of the Sheraton Hotel where we were taken for lunch. The US border is at the far end of the bridge, and below - almost completely frozen.

Just up river from the bridge into Canada are the Falls - impressive! The American/Canadian border cuts the falls in half as explained below.

This is Rainbow Falls, also known as the American Falls (no prizes for guessing why). The American Falls receive only about 10% of the total volume of water going over the falls.

To the right is the mighty Horseshoe Falls, also known as (you guessed it) the Canadian Falls. This big bastard gets 90% of the flow - around two million litres per second!

In summer you can take the Maid of the Mist boat (shown in the bottom of the shot) right up to the base of the falls which would have been cool, but we still got a close up (further below).

The Horseshoe Falls. Check out the mist pissing off it!

That mist from the falls settles on everything around and then freezes completely solid - bloody amazing! Not so good if you've got a runny nose though ;)

As an alternative to the Maid of the Mist in summer you can walk through a number of tunnels that run beside and behind the falls for a pretty good close up!

This is directly behind the Horseshoe Falls.

I thought about it ;)

After a quick look at the rapids leading to the falls it was back to Buffalo for the flight back. Jen got an impromptu Happy Birthday from the tour group at the airport hehe.

Yeah well I definitely couldn't fit that in my pack and I wasn't about to shove it up my arse to get it back here, never mind...
