The route I took during the weekend was worked out with the help of RouteYou.com and uploaded to my GPS (the same thing Dav and I used for the Holland cycle trip). RouteYou has an option to calculate a 'nice' route between two points (as opposed to the fastest or most direct route). I'm not sure how it determines what's nice and what's not but it sure does a pretty good job of it!

I usually like to bang on about facts and figures (that are usually plagiarised from somewhere else), but since I've already been here and done all of this I won't repeat myself - instead see the links below for more info on all of this stuff from the last time I was in Paris :)

Notre Dame...

Note the massive queue to get in!

The Champs-Élysées is one of the most famous streets in the world with its cinemas, cafes, and bloody expensive specialty shops. I have a women's clothing store named after me ;)

Looking back down the Champs-Élysées towards the Louvre along the eight lanes of traffic fun!

Surrounding the Arc de Triomphe is the fucking chaotic Place de l'Étoile - a massive roundabout of sorts where 12 straight avenues (including the Champs-Élysée) all meet. There are no marked lanes, no one seems to give way to anybody, traffic screams around in all directions - it's bloody funny to watch!

I recently read somewhere that as a tourist, no matter how much you might want to cycle around the Place de l'Étoile, just don't do it. So did I? Of course I bloody did, about a dozen times - above is what my GPS recorded while tracking me around it hehe! I've even got a video of it here shot from my little bike cam, although as it can only see out 45-degrees in front of me it really doesn't capture the full extent of the chaos around me - I probably should've stuck it to my helmet! I'd have to agree with the recommendation not to ride around this - some of the drivers are mad (a year of biking around London definitely helped), and even car insurance companies here have different rules specifically regarding this road. Afterwards I was approached by a local, who in very broken English told me I was a maniac but he had enjoyed watching me hoon around and around hahaha!

From Google Maps / Google Earth you can see the top, and here's a shot from the bottom - right up her metallic ass!

A couple hundred metres down the road from the Eiffel Tower is this awesome little bakery and cafe. I stuffed my face at this place last time I was here, and was eager to come back for more! Nom nom nom!
