Day something saw us leaving Andorra for the 450km haul to the south-western coast of France. We took a few toll roads along the way for the sake of time and yeah those bastards sure would add up over a road-trip of this length!

En route we stopped in Pau (because someone told us to).

Like Andorra, there appears to be plenty of shopping to be done here too, but Pau is best known for the Boulevard des Pyrénées, a piss-boring walk of less than a kilometre between the Parc du Beaumont where grumpy old men hang out on the benches, and the Château de Pau which has a little bit of history to it. Boring though it may be the boulevard is notable for its panoramic view of the peaks of the Pyrenees some 50km to the south (but we came here on a crap day so the views were a bit crap too).

No matter where you go in the world there's bound to be an Irish pub and an Australian bar. The Boulevard des Pyrénées has both, right next to each other.

It also has a funicular that runs every ten minutes all of about 20 metres down the hill. At first I thought it a complete waste of time as there are plenty of stairs along the boulevard to get you down there but some of the locals seemed pretty upset to have missed it (and wait for the next one).

We eventually made it to the coast in the evening, and woke the following morning to pissing rain and a damp tent. Our plan had been to hit the famed beaches of Biarritz to soak up some rays, but with none of those around we instead hit the road again and drove an hour south across the Spanish border and into the Basque Country.

This is San Sebastián, the Basque Country's most stylish city according to Lonely Planet.

On a sunny day in summer I can imagine this would be an awesome spot, but as it was we wandered the maze of little streets to find some lunch and hit the jackpot!

Spain equals tapas, and this was the best tapas bar I've ever come across! The idea is you take what you want from the myriad of crap on offer and pay per piece. In between the seafood and the battered bits and pieces I was in food heaven! :)

Again, on a sunny day in summer, this would be awesome!

On the way back towards Biarritz we stopped off at a random beach to stretch the legs, and what a dismal sight that is!

The kite surfers were loving it though!

Sand people ;)

When we got to Biarritz the scene hadn't changed much. It was cold, wet, and windy, and even the surfers were having none of it. Biarritz is a luxurious seaside town in the Bay of Biscay boasting some of the best beaches in Europe.

Katie saw this guy trip and somehow tumble backwards into the surf while running from a large wave. He was saturated from head to toe hahaha!

I managed to get myself saturated also while getting a close shot of the huge waves smashing against the coast hehe.

You wouldn't think someone wearing ninja pants would be that afraid of a little bit of water ;)

Boy does she look cold!
