First stop: Nice (pronounced 'neese'). Home to 350,000-ish, Right on the Mediterranean coast and in the region of Côte d'Azur (aka the French Riviera - one of the most famous resort areas in the world). After escaping the airport at 11am we had the rest of the day and night here.

We picked up the car from the airport and I was immediately thrown into the thick of it with adapting to changing gears with the wrong hand (some minor coordination involved there).

This was my first time in Europe since Croatia exactly 12 months ago, and I was immediately reminded of how nuts they are on scooters. This dude took to the footpath to avoid the red light hehe. I don't even cycle like this!

They park 'em anywhere they like too, and I came bloody close to wiping a few of them out while they blatantly ride down the middle of the road to overtake other vehicles regardless of what's coming towards them. Crazy bastards!

No wonder some of them look a little worse for wear hahaha. In Bordeaux we found a chick on the roadside who appeared to have just been cleaned up by a car but they bloody ask for it so I have no sympathy for them.

Nice is a city of two halves: the half closest to the beachfront - by far the nicest...

...and the other half further up the hills with dog shit all over the place and chainsaws advertised on the back of buses (this is the half our hostel was in hahaha!).

We stuck to the beachfront and the surrounding areas ;) The shots below are in Place Masséna - the main square of the city.

I've no idea what the point is of these guys squatting atop tall poles, but they're interesting nonetheless.

Another shot of Place Masséna, and looking down through the old town area.

Up the hill is Parc du Chateau and from it are some great views over the seafront and city.

On the other side of the hill is the port of Nice, aka Lympia Port. The apartments on the hillside in the distance are apparently come with a very hefty price tag.

The old town on the east side of the seafront is a fantastic area to meander through with its cafes, restaurants, markets, ice creameries, and cool architecture.

There's a lot of random stuff to be found throughout old town as well. These are all herbs and spices, and combinations thereof - smelt amazing!

There's plenty of random looking seafood around as well. Pretty undignified death, having a big lemon jammed in your face hehe.

The beach and seafront by night...

Place Masséna (main square) and the squatting men...

Looking north towards the hills from Place Masséna...

Someone taking a piss in an alley wearing a kilt, and after witnessing many a Scotsman do exactly this during my two years in Scotland this doesn't surprise me hehe.
