No shit.

The following day we headed north in the car for a bit of a road-trip. I'd picked out a couple towns before leaving London that looked interesting. As you can see it was pretty overcast, but the rain held off.

We passed through several little villages along the way and some pretty spectacular scenery. Austria, like Switzerland to the west, is well worth a visit off the beaten track if you ever get the opportunity. Again, it's twice as nice in summer!

More icy roads = more good fun!

Across the border into Germany :)

Stop number one was Mittenwald! This is a really nice little town (population 8,000) just over the Austria/Germany border. It is apparently famous for the manufacture of violins, violas, and cellos (hence the big one below).

After a good meander we found a cute little pub that was clearly just full of locals, and picked the random'est-looking stuff on the menu for lunch (and this is what came out - nice!). Katie didn't finish all of her chips, and when the waitress chick came to clear our plates I quickly snatched the last handful to eat them, which the locals all seemed to find amusing hehe.

Back on the road, and again through some pretty amazing scenery that the photos don't do justice.

Stop number two was Garmisch-Partenkirchen. Pronounce that how you will; Katie labelled it Glockenspiel-Pumpernickel (because she's a weirdo).

Glockenspiel-Pumpernickel is home to almost 30,000 and has an interesting history (it was two separate towns for centuries: Garmisch and Partenkirchen, until Hitler forced them to merge in 1935), but all we were interested in doing was wandering around the place. Apart from a little bit of snow, everything above is just ice!

Hehehe, I do this a lot. More here ;)

So yes more wandering and more eating ensued.

With her right wrist out of action, Katie had to make do with her left. It didn't work too well hahaha!

Day four, and another balmy one at -4! We were going to hit the slopes of Mayrhofen for some more snowboarding, but that wasn't a good idea for Katie with her wrist so we had to scrap that idea.

Instead we decided to take another drive, to Munich this time. I was there a bit over three years ago and Katie's never been there at all, and it's only a two hour drive from Innsbruck so sweet as. The GPS took me back via Mittenwald and Glockenspiel-Pumpernickel again, but this time it was sunny and man what a difference a little bit of sunshine makes!

Nice, nice, nice!

It was somewhat different once we were out of the mountains though hehe.

You've got to hand it to the Germans, they make great cars!

The Glockenspiel in central Munich.

I didn't bother taking too many shots here since I've done it all before.

Hehehe!

Hofbräuhaus (hard to illustrate how massive this beer house is inside)...

Surfing on a river in the English Gardens (where I did the nude sunbathing last time)...

And Marienplatz in central Munich by night (crammed with people!).
